Print developed from Probably Ubi; C?te d¡¯Ivoire, Face Mask, 20th century, from the exhibition The Language of Beauty in African Art. In some cultures, the ugly and the beautiful are brought together in a gendered pairing, with male masks that combine animal and human features set against female masks that exemplify the local canon of physical attractiveness.
